Baby brain scans can predict who is likely to develop autism
By Anil Ananthaswamy
A machine-learning algorithm has analysed brain scans of 6-month-old children and predicted with near-certainty whether they will show signs of autism when they reach the age of 2. The finding means we may soon be able to intervene before symptoms appear, although whether that would be desirable is a controversial issue.

Accelerating Antarctic crack will hasten calving of huge iceberg
By Andy Coghlan
An enormous chunk of the Larsen C ice shelf on the Antarctic Peninsula now looks doomed to calve into the Weddell Sea, possibly within weeks.
Its fate is being sealed by a sudden change of direction in a 200-kilometre ice crack. Until last week, it had been running parallel to the Weddell Sea, but it has now turned seaward, satellite images have revealed.

Stem-Cell Therapy Takes Off in Texas

1. Write a short essay in response to the following question:
Some people think that fashion magazines show images of medels who are too thin and that this can lead to eating disorders. Should magazines be requires to use models who are more healthy-looking?
2.What do you think is the single biggest medical problem that Japan will face in the year 2050?
