なお、以下には簡単な書評がありました。
Ancestor Stones tells the story of four women in an unnamed West African country, and each had a different mother from their father's eleven wives. Their niece, Abie, lives in London with her husband, and when she receives a letter informing her that the old family coffee plantation in Africa is now hers, she returns to Africa. From her four aunts, Asana, Mary, Hawa and Serah, Abie hears their stories, which gives her a sense of the family and country she left behind. Their polygamous family suffered through petty disputes, exile, favorite wives and jealousy among them, and mirrored much of the strife that plagued their country. Yet held within was the family and the country were the personal interactions that gave them a sense of home and belonging. Aminatta Forna's debut novel has received positive reviews with The Telegraph saying, "Yet the book leaves an impression of immense joyfulness, a sense of delight and wonder. Conveying the human spirit's irrepressible love of life is the triumph of this magical book."
